Three Groups Your Church Must Target PDF Print E-mail
There are three specific groups of people that you must be actively catering to on your church website. Everyone that is breathing falls into these three categories and by making an all out effort to meet their needs your website will start serving a greater need. Read on to find out more about these three groups of people...

1. Your Church Members - Members of your church are hungry for information and direction. In his book Boiling Point, George Barna projects that 10 to 20 percent of the population will rely on the Internet for all their spiritual input and output by the year 2010. When people go to the Internet with their spiritual questions, who will be providing the answers? What will they be taught?

Jesus told Peter to feed his sheep and that mandate has not changed. Followers of Christ need to be fed and nourished spiritually. They need teaching, instruction, edification, and direction. Does your church website provide your members needs? If not there is a great chance that they will go somewhere else to be fed.

2. Christians moving to the area looking for a new church - Your website will be your "first impression" for many people. Last summer my family and I went on vacation to San Diego CA. We had never been there and didn't know anyone, yet that didn't stop us. We had heard good things about the area and went online to do our research. Thanks to Google maps we go a 3D virtual tour of the town.

The Internet helped us decide where we were going to stay, where we were going to visit, and was the exclusive tool we used to plan the entire event. We even looked for churches that were in our area of town. I determined which churches I would want to visit based only on their website. Churches who didn't have a website did not exist to me because they were not online.

This is not uncommon in our day, rather it is VERY common. What does your website offer visitors? Do you give them a good idea of what they will expect if they were to walk in the doors? Would your site tell them how their kids would be taken care of? Does it have audio or video sermons available for them to listen to? All these things and more will determine if they come to your church.

3. Non-Christians in your community - The Internet is the perfect tool for people wanting information anonymously. Seekers who are not ready to “come to the building” will visit your Web site to see what you believe and why. Savvy organizations are using the Web to educate visitors and encourage them to take the next step. Online sermons and photos of services and events go a long way toward making a seeker feel secure enough to make a first-time visit.
